As part of NIOSH’s efforts to keep our stakeholders up to date on the CDC and NIOSH coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) response, below is a summary of new information posted this week.

NIOSH Science Blog Post: Research Questions for Aerosol Scientists Addressing COVID-19 and the Workplace
A new NIOSH Science Blog post presents questions surrounding COVID-19 transmission in droplets and aerosols containing SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and provides suggestions for future research topics.


Translated Carpooling Infographics
CDC translated an infographic with suggestions on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 when carpooling into multiple languages. It is now available in Marshallese, Russian, Spanish, Tamil, Telugu, and Vietnamese.

Eight Transit-related Fact Sheets   

CDC recently published eight transit-related fact sheets with COVID-19 related information:

Gym and Fitness Center Fact Sheets

CDC published two fact sheets for gym and fitness center employees and employers with suggestions for preventing the spread of COVID-19 .

 

Respiratory Protection Resources in Long-term Care—Recorded Webinar

On this recorded webinar, a panel of speakers from NIOSH, OSHA, and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill discuss how long-term care facilities can implement respiratory protection programs to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.


Upcoming Webinars

August 19, 11:00–11:30 a.m. and 10:00–10:30 p.m. (EDT): COVID-19 Prevention and Mitigation: American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the CDC Discuss Impacts of COVID-19 in the Maritime Industry

Hosted by the ABS, this webinar presents information for preventing COVID-19 exposure and mitigating the impacts after exposure for operational and contingency planning. NIOSH and ABS speakers will discuss recommended control measures and how they can be practically applied onboard a vessel or offshore asset. Registration is required.

August 19, 2:00–3:30 p.m. (EDT): Sharing Science and Lessons Learned: COVID-19 and Wildfire

Presenters, including NIOSH experts, will summarize the 2020 wildland fire season and provide updates on COVID-19, current CDC testing strategies and guidance, and current infection prevention procedures. Registration is required.

August 20, 3:00–4:15 p.m. (EDT): Guidance for Maintaining Safe Mass Transit Operations Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

An expert panel from NIOSH and Virginia Tech will present updated guidance on employee medical surveillance and testing, controlling COVID-19 transmission in mass transit operations, and new insights on air flow and options for physical barriers as engineering-based mitigation strategies. Registration is required.
