As part of NIOSH’s efforts to keep our stakeholders up to date on the CDC and NIOSH coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) response, below is a summary of new information posted this week.

General Resources

Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting
CDC has published Reopening Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting Public Spaces, Workplaces, Businesses, Schools, and Homes. Reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19 by cleaning and disinfection is an important part of reopening public spaces that will require careful planning.

Personal Protective Equipment Burn Rate Mobile App
The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Burn Rate Calculator is now available as a mobile app. Facilities can use the App to calculate their average PPE consumption rate or “burn rate.” The app estimates how many days a PPE supply will last given current inventory levels and PPE burn rate. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Job Specific Resources

Law Enforcement Personnel Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
CDC has published FAQs for Law Enforcement Agencies and Personnel that address questions such as how to screen personnel for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, how law enforcement can get personal protective equipment, additional precautions law enforcement should take during death investigations, and where to take a person in custody who shows symptoms of COVID-19.

Meat and Poultry Processing Guidance
CDC and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have published Guidance for Meat and Poultry Processing Workers and Employers. Multiple outbreaks of COVID-19 among meat and poultry processing facility workers have occurred in the United States recently.
